Biography
Chris Kelly, also credited as Christopher Kelly, is an Irish documentary filmmaker and writer. He is the founder of Little Ease Films and is best known for his debut feature documentary A Cambodian Spring (2017), on which he served as director, writer, producer, editor and cinematographer.
The film, shot over six years from 2009, follows land-rights protests around Boeung Kak lake in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It premiered at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival in 2017, where it won the Special Jury Prize for International Feature Documentary, and received a UK theatrical release in 2018. It was nominated for the BAFTA award for outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer in 2019 and won Best Documentary at the Brooklyn Film Festival.
Kelly, from Derry, began the project after a 2006 visit to Cambodia. His other work includes contributions to The Guardian and an award-winning investigation into slavery in the Thai fishing industry.
