Biography
Christen Jul, born Christen Jul Viggo Pedersen, was a Danish screenwriter and film director. The son of painter Viggo Pedersen, he studied music and composition in Copenhagen and Berlin, qualifying as an organist, before working in business and then as a singing teacher and stage director in London from the mid-1920s.
While based in London he collaborated with Carl Theodor Dreyer on the screenplay for the horror film Vampyr (1932), adapted from elements of Sheridan Le Fanu's In a Glass Darkly. Returning to Denmark in 1938, Jul directed and wrote several features, including I gaar og i morgen (1945) and Lykke paa rejsen (1947), and also worked in theatre as a director and censor.
