Biography
Christopher Hewett (1922–2001) was an English actor and theatre director. He was born in Worthing, Sussex, and made his stage debut at the age of seven in a Dublin production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. After service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, he joined the Oxford Playhouse repertory company and later appeared in the West End.
Hewett moved to New York in the mid-1950s and performed in several Broadway productions, including the original cast of My Fair Lady (1956). He also directed stage revues and musicals. His film roles include Inspector Talbot in The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) and Roger De Bris in The Producers (1968).
On television he appeared in series such as Fantasy Island and Murder, She Wrote, and played the title role in the sitcom Mr. Belvedere (1985–1990). He never married.
