Biography
Claude Aveline, also known by his birth name Evgen Avtsine, was a French writer, poet and actor. Born in Paris in 1901, he made a single screen appearance, uncredited, in Jean Vigo's L'Atalante (1934). A close friend of Vigo, Aveline later founded the Prix Jean Vigo in 1951 and presided over its jury for twenty-five years.
Aveline wrote novels, poetry, essays and radio dramas, and contributed to left-wing and anti-fascist publications. He joined the French Resistance during the Second World War. He died in Paris in 1992.
