Biography
Coleen Gray (born Doris Bernice Jensen) was an American actress. Born in Staplehurst, Nebraska, she studied dramatics at Hamline University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She moved to California, worked briefly as a waitress, and enrolled in a drama school in Los Angeles before signing a contract with 20th Century-Fox following a screen test.
She appeared in uncredited roles in State Fair (1945) and Three Little Girls in Blue (1946). Gray gained notice for her performances in film noir, including Kiss of Death (1947) and Nightmare Alley (1947). She played Fen in Howard Hawks's Red River (1948) and later appeared as Fay in Stanley Kubrick's The Killing (1956). Her career included numerous films and guest roles in television series such as Perry Mason, Bonanza and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. She continued working into the 1980s.
