Biography
Daisuke Itō (伊藤 大輔) was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He was born on 13 October 1898 in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, and died on 19 July 1981 in Kyoto Prefecture.
Itō began writing screenplays in the early 1920s and made his directorial debut in 1924. He became a leading figure in jidaigeki (period drama) cinema during the silent era, notably with the trilogy A Diary of Chuji's Travels (1927). His work often featured dynamic camerawork and anti-heroic protagonists. He continued directing and writing into the sound era and postwar period, with credits including adaptations for later films such as An Actor's Revenge (1963).
