Biography

Dale Launer is an American screenwriter, film director and producer. Born on 19 May 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was raised in the San Fernando Valley. He attended California State University, Northridge, where he studied film before dropping out to pursue a career writing and directing motion pictures.

His first produced screenplay was for the 1986 black comedy Ruthless People. Subsequent credits include the screenplays for Blind Date (1987), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) and My Cousin Vinny (1992), the last of which he also produced. He wrote, directed and produced Love Potion No. 9 (1992) and the independent feature Tom's Nu Heaven (2005), which won Best Picture at the Monaco Film Festival.

Launer is the son of actor S. John Launer.
