Biography

David Barker is an American film editor, screenwriter and director. He studied philosophy and anthropology before entering film and is a member of the American Cinema Editors.

He is known for his collaborations with director Petra Costa, serving as co-writer and editor on the documentaries The Edge of Democracy (2019) and Apocalypse in the Tropics (2024). Barker has also edited fiction features including Shirley (2020) and Birds of Paradise (2021) for Josephine Decker, as well as Approaching the Unknown (2016).

Earlier in his career he directed the features Afraid of Everything (1999) and Daylight (2010), and he has taught at several universities including Brown and Bard.
