Biography
David Cryer is an American actor known for his work in theatre, film and television. Born on 8 March 1936 in Evanston, Illinois, he was one of the founders of San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater.
On stage he originated or played major roles in several Broadway productions, including Rutledge in 1776, Juan Perón in Evita and Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera, a part he performed for nearly nineteen years. He received a Theatre World Award for his performance in Come Summer (1969).
His film credits include Wagner in Escape from Alcatraz (1979), Lt. Curtis in American Gigolo (1980) and a role in New York Stories (1989). Television appearances include episodes of Wonder Woman (1975) and Law & Order (1990–1991). He is the father of actor Jon Cryer.
