Biography
David De Silva is an American film producer and writer. Born in New York City, he graduated from Queens College in 1957 with a degree in history and later studied theatre with Stella Adler. He began his career as a theatrical agent in New York before developing projects for stage and screen.
De Silva conceived and produced the 1980 MGM film Fame, which received four Academy Award nominations. He retained the stage rights and went on to conceive and develop Fame – The Musical, which has been produced in many countries worldwide. He is known as “Father Fame” and established the Father Fame Foundation to promote theatre arts. He also served as consulting producer on the associated television series (1982–1987).
His earlier credits include work as a production assistant on Advise & Consent (1962). De Silva has continued to develop related projects, including stage sequels, a ballet and an audio book.
