Biography
David Sarvis (1913–1999) was an American actor, theatre director and educator. Born in Nanking, China, to missionary parents, he moved to the United States at the age of 13. His sole screen credit was the role of Alexander in the independent film Salt of the Earth (1954).
Sarvis worked extensively in politically engaged theatre, directing productions for the Labor Theater of the California Labor School in San Francisco. During the McCarthy era he refused to name names when subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee. With his wife Gloria Unti he founded the Performing Arts Workshop; he also directed at San Francisco Interplayers and the Actors Workshop.
