Biography
David Saxon was an American film and television editor. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on 23 June 1927, he served as a photographer in the US Army during the Second World War before studying at UCLA. He began his professional career in the 1950s editing commercials and joined the Editors Guild in 1957.
Saxon had a long association with producer David L. Wolper, editing numerous documentaries for National Geographic Specials as well as the feature films If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969) and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). He later worked on television series including Hill Street Blues, MacGyver and the miniseries North and South (1985). Saxon received an Emmy Award and several ACE Awards for his editing.
He patented a multiple-image filming process known as Multi-Vision, first used in the 1968 television special Movin’ with Nancy. Saxon died in Los Angeles on 5 July 2016.
