Biography
David Yallop was a British writer of television scripts and non-fiction books. Born David Anthony Yallop in South London on 27 January 1937, he left school at 14 and, after National Service, worked as a studio floor manager at Rediffusion and later London Weekend Television before becoming a full-time television writer in 1965.
He wrote episodes for series including Crown Court, Doctor on the Go and Minder (credited as David A. Yallop or David Yallop on episodes from series 5, 7, 8 and 9). In 1989 he was dismissed as a scriptwriter for EastEnders after proposing controversial storylines and successfully sued the BBC for breach of contract. He also wrote screenplays for the films Beyond Reasonable Doubt (1980) and Chicago Joe and the Showgirl (1990), and co-authored Graham Chapman’s A Liar’s Autobiography (Volume VI) (1980).
Yallop’s best-known books examined crime, miscarriages of justice and conspiracies, including In God’s Name (1984) on the death of Pope John Paul I. He died on 23 August 2018.
