Biography
Dawn Steel (also credited as Dawn Leslie Steel) was an American film studio executive and producer. She rose through merchandising and production roles at Paramount Pictures, where she became president of production in 1985, overseeing films including Flashdance (1983), Top Gun (1986) and Fatal Attraction (1987).
In 1987 she was appointed president of Columbia Pictures, becoming one of the first women to head a major Hollywood studio; she held the post until 1990. She later worked as an independent producer, forming Steel Pictures at Walt Disney and Atlas Entertainment with her husband, producer Charles Roven. Her producing credits include Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992), Cool Runnings (1993), Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993), Angus (1995), Fallen (1998) and City of Angels (1998). She wrote the memoir They Can Kill You But They Can't Eat You (1993) and died in 1997.
