Biography
Derrick De Marney (21 September 1906 – 18 February 1978) was an English stage and film actor and producer of French and Irish ancestry. Born in Brentford, Middlesex, he appeared on the London stage from 1922 and in films from 1928. His performance in the play Young Mr Disraeli led to a film contract with Alexander Korda.
He is best known for playing Robert Tisdall in Alfred Hitchcock's Young and Innocent (1937) and Richard Gordon in Things to Come (1936). Other notable roles include Benjamin Disraeli in Victoria the Great (1937) and the title character in Uncle Silas (1947). With his brother Terence De Marney he formed Concanen Productions, which produced wartime documentaries and features such as The Gentle Sex (1943). His final screen role was in The Projected Man (1966).
