Biography
Deryck Guyler (29 April 1914 – 7 October 1999) was an English actor. Born in Wallasey, Cheshire, he was the son of a jeweller and attended Liverpool College. He trained for the church before entering acting, joining Liverpool repertory in 1935.
During the Second World War he served in the RAF Police before being invalided out; he then worked with ENSA and joined the BBC's Drama Repertory company in Manchester in 1942. Guyler became a familiar voice on BBC radio in the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in programmes including ITMA and Just Fancy, and later on television in sitcoms such as Please Sir! and Sykes.
His film credits include the role of Police Inspector in A Hard Day's Night (1964), Mr Hardcastle in Carry On Doctor (1967), and appearances in The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963) and One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing (1975). He is also noted for a recorded news bulletin used in every performance of The Mousetrap since 1952.
