Biography
Diane Paragas is a Filipino-American director, writer and producer of narrative features, documentaries and commercials. She began her career in documentaries and co-directed the 2012 feature Brooklyn Boheme with Nelson George; the film premiered on Showtime and won the Black Reel Award for Outstanding TV Documentary.
Her debut narrative feature, Yellow Rose (2019), which she wrote, directed and produced, follows an undocumented Filipino-American teenager in Texas who dreams of becoming a country singer. The film won multiple Grand Jury and Audience Awards at festivals including LAAPFF, Bentonville and Urbanworld, and received a theatrical release from Sony Pictures in 2020. Paragas has also directed an episode of the second season of the Apple TV+ anthology series Little America (2022). She owns and operates the Brooklyn-based production company Civilian Studios and is a 2022 United States Artists Fellow and 2020 Creative Capital Awardee.
