Biography
Dick Allen (1944–2007) was a British film editor who worked for the BBC and as a freelancer. He was educated at Ardingly College in West Sussex and completed an apprenticeship in aeronautical engineering at Vickers in Weybridge before joining the BBC in 1964. He began in the film library and trained as an editor, becoming fully established by 1973.
Allen edited numerous BBC documentary series and prestige television dramas of the 1970s and 1980s. His credits include the 1981 serial The Day of the Triffids and the 1991 film Enchanted April. He received BAFTA awards for best film editor for Hotel du Lac (1986) and Portrait of a Marriage (1990). He left the BBC in 1991 and continued freelance work until 1994.
