Biography
Dionísio Azevedo, born Taufik Jacob, was a Brazilian actor, director and writer. He began his career in radio in 1941 at Rádio Record before moving into theatre, television and film from the early 1950s.
He was a pioneer of Brazilian teledramaturgy, adapting and directing for the live anthology series TV de Vanguarda. On stage he played Willy Loman in A Morte do Caixeiro Viajante (1962). In film he appeared in dozens of titles, including O Sobrado (1956), O Pagador de Promessas (1962) as Padre Olavo, Lampião, O Rei do Cangaço (1964), Independência ou Morte (1972) and A Marvada Carne (1985). He also directed several features and telenovelas.
Azevedo was married to actress Flora Geny until her death in 1991. He died in São Paulo on 11 December 1994.
