Biography
Divine, born Harris Glenn Milstead, was an American actor, singer and drag performer. He was born on 19 October 1945 in Towson, Maryland, and died on 7 March 1988 in Los Angeles, California. He became closely associated with filmmaker John Waters and starred in several of his films, including the lead role of Babs Johnson in Pink Flamingos (1972).
Divine also appeared in Waters's Multiple Maniacs (1970), Female Trouble (1974), Polyester (1981) and Hairspray (1988), in which he played Edna Turnblad and Arvin Hodgepile. He performed in theatre productions and had a career as a disco singer in the 1980s.
