Biography
Douglas Harvey Dick (20 November 1920 – 19 December 2015) was an American actor and occasional screenwriter. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, he made his film debut in The Searching Wind (1946) after a screen test arranged by producer Hal B. Wallis. His best-known film role was Kenneth Lawrence in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope (1948).
Dick appeared in further films including Home of the Brave (1949), The Red Badge of Courage (1951) and Flaming Star (1960). He worked extensively in television, with a regular role in the series Waterfront (1954–1955) and guest appearances in shows such as Perry Mason. He also wrote episodes for series including Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. In 1971 he left acting to practise as a psychologist, having earned a PhD from the California School of Professional Psychology.
