Biography
Dušan Makavejev was a Serbian film director and screenwriter. Born in Belgrade on 13 October 1932, he studied psychology at the University of Belgrade and film directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts there. He began making experimental shorts in the 1950s before his first feature, Man Is Not a Bird (1965).
Makavejev directed, wrote and produced WR: Mysteries of the Organism (1971), a film banned in Yugoslavia for its political and sexual content. Other films include Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator (1967), Sweet Movie (1974) and The Coca-Cola Kid (1985). He was married to Bojana Marijan, who worked as assistant director and producer on several of his films. Makavejev died in Belgrade on 25 January 2019.
