Biography
Édgar Ángel Vivar Villanueva, also credited as Edgar Vivar or Édgar Vivar, is a Mexican actor and comedian. He began his acting career in theatre in 1964 and later studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Universidad Iberoamericana, qualifying as a doctor specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology before practising briefly.
In the early 1970s he was recruited by Roberto Gómez Bolaños (Chespirito) for the television series El Chavo del Ocho, in which he played Señor Barriga and his son Ñoño; he also portrayed El Botija in Chespirito and El Chapulín Colorado. These roles brought him international recognition across Latin America, Spain and the United States.
Vivar has continued to work in film and television, appearing in Bandidas (2006) and as Balaban in The Orphanage (2007), as well as in later series such as Vecinos.
