Biography
Edi Hubschmid is a Swiss film producer and screenwriter. Born in Zürich in 1947, he entered the industry in 1973 and worked as an assistant director, production manager and location manager on numerous Swiss and international films before becoming a producer.
In 1979 he co-founded Cactus Films AG. As producer of Yılmaz Güney’s Yol (also known as The Road, 1982) he shared in the Palme d’Or win at Cannes. Subsequent credits include Glut (1983), Leo Sonnyboy (1989) and Azzurro (2000). He co-founded C-Films AG in 1999, sold his shares in 2005 and later established Umut Editions GmbH (2020) and Umut Pictures GmbH (2024). He has served on boards of Swiss film organisations and lives in Zürich.
