Biography
Edmund L. Hartmann (24 September 1911 – 28 November 2003) was an American screenwriter and television producer. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he attended Washington University in St. Louis before moving to Hollywood in the mid-1930s.
He wrote screenplays for numerous films, including several Bob Hope comedies such as The Paleface (1948), Sorrowful Jones (1949), Fancy Pants (1950) and The Lemon Drop Kid (1951), as well as The Caddy (1953) and earlier work on Sherlock Holmes films. In television he produced My Three Sons for ten seasons from 1962 and Family Affair (1966–1971).
Hartmann served as president of the Writers Guild of America West from 1955 to 1959 and later as national chairman.
