Biography
Édouard Dermit (also spelled Dermithe) was a French actor and painter. Born Antoine Édouard Dermit on 18 January 1925 in Pisino (then in the Kingdom of Italy), he died in Paris on 15 May 1995.
He first worked as a gardener and chauffeur for Jean Cocteau before appearing in several of the director's films, beginning with an uncredited role in The Eagle with Two Heads (1948). His credited roles include Paul in The Strange Ones (1950) and Jacques Cégeste in Orpheus (1950); he reprised the latter character, uncredited, in Testament of Orpheus (1960). He also appeared in Thomas the Impostor (1965).
Dermit was a painter who completed unfinished works by Cocteau after the latter's death in 1963, including frescoes in the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Jérusalem in Fréjus.
