Biography
Edward Van Sloan (born Edward Paul Van Sloun) was an American character actor who worked in theatre and film. He appeared on Broadway in the 1920s, including the stage adaptation of Dracula, before making his screen debut in the 1931 film version.
He is known for roles in Universal horror productions of the 1930s, including Professor Van Helsing in Dracula (1931) and Dracula's Daughter (1936), Dr Waldman in Frankenstein (1931), and Dr Muller in The Mummy (1932). He also delivered the on-screen prologue warning audiences in Frankenstein.
Van Sloan continued in supporting roles through the 1940s and retired in the late 1940s.
