Biography
Eleanor Bergstein is an American writer. Born on 17 April 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. She began her career as a novelist with Advancing Paul Newman (1973) before writing screenplays.
Bergstein wrote the screenplay for It's My Turn (1980). She is best known for writing and co-producing Dirty Dancing (1987), which drew on her own experiences of dancing in the Catskills. She later adapted the film into the stage musical Dirty Dancing, which opened in Australia in 2004.
Her other credits include writing and directing the film Let It Be Me (1995).
