Biography
Elma Karlowa (12 March 1932 – 31 December 1994) was a Yugoslav actress who worked primarily in German film and television. Born Selma-Karolina Karlowac in Zagreb, she began her career in the late 1940s and appeared in numerous productions from the 1950s onwards.
She is known for supporting roles in several films directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, including Mrs. Kargus in Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974), the shopkeeper in Fox and His Friends (1975), the waitress in Martha (1974), the cafeteria manager in World on a Wire (1973) and Frau Greiner in Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980). Other credits include Fedora (1978) and episodes of the series Tatort.
