Biography
Elwyn Brook-Jones (11 December 1911 – 4 September 1962) was a British theatre, film and television actor. He began his performing career as a concert pianist, making his public debut in Australia at the age of 11, and later appeared in cabaret before becoming a character actor in the 1930s. He made his London stage debut in 1943 as Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler and went on to work in repertory and West End productions.
Brook-Jones played Tober in Carol Reed's Odd Man Out (1947) and Gladwin in Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's The Small Back Room (1949). His other film roles include the Duke of Cumberland in Bonnie Prince Charlie (1948) and the Emir in The Pure Hell of St Trinian's (1960). On television he appeared in series such as Garry Halliday (as 'The Voice') and various BBC Sunday-Night Theatre productions. He was married to Julia Sandham.
