Biography
Emily Perkins is a New Zealand screenwriter, playwright and novelist. She trained in acting at Toi Whakaari before turning to writing, studying under Bill Manhire at Victoria University. Her screen credits include co-writing an episode of the drama series After the Party (2023).
She co-wrote the feature film The Rehearsal (2016), adapted from Eleanor Catton’s novel. For the stage she has written the original play The Made and adapted Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, both for Auckland Theatre Company. Her novels include The Forrests (2012) and Lioness (2023).
In 2017 she was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to literature. She has received the Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate Award and multiple New Zealand Book Awards.
