Biography
Emmy Wyda, also credited as Emmy Wiede, was a German actress. Born Emmy Wiede on 2 March 1876 in Danzig (now Gdańsk), she began her stage career in 1896, performing in theatres in Lüneburg, Barmen, Stuttgart, Cologne and Norderney before joining the Schillertheater in Berlin in 1904. She later appeared at the Thalia-Theater, Theater am Nollendorfplatz and other Berlin venues.
Wyda entered film in 1913 and worked as a supporting actress, frequently playing mothers, aunts and comic elderly women in both silent and sound productions. She appeared in more than eighty films until 1941. Among her credits are the role of the thin neighbour in F. W. Murnau’s The Last Laugh (1924), an uncredited part in his Faust (1926), and a role in G. W. Pabst’s Diary of a Lost Girl (1929). She died in Berlin on 22 January 1942.
