Biography
Éric Rohmer (1920–2010) was a French film director and screenwriter. A leading figure of the French New Wave, he edited the journal Cahiers du cinéma in the 1950s before directing his own features.
He is best known for the Six Moral Tales series, which includes My Night at Maud's (1969) and Claire's Knee (1970), and the Tales of the Four Seasons, among them A Tale of Winter (1992), A Tale of Springtime (1990) and A Summer's Tale (1996). Rohmer frequently wrote his own screenplays and also worked under pseudonyms including Maurice Schérer.
His films often explore moral and romantic dilemmas through extended conversations. He also directed adaptations such as The Marquise of O (1976).
