Biography
Erich von Ritzau (1877–1936) was a Danish actor who appeared in American silent films. Born in Copenhagen, he worked in the United States from the mid-1910s, typically in supporting roles as aristocratic or foreign characters.
His credits include the First Pharisee in the Judean Story of D.W. Griffith's Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages (1916), billed as Gunther von Ritzau, and an uncredited role as Dr. Painless Potter in Greed (1924). He also appeared in shorts such as The Wayward Son (1915) and A Bold Impersonation (1915), and in features including Old Heidelberg (1915) and The Prairie Wife (1925).
Von Ritzau’s film work spanned 1914 to 1925, with billing variations including Baron von Ritzau, Erik von Ritzau and E. von Ritzen.
