Biography
Esben Høilund Carlsen (also credited as Esben Højlund Carlsen) was a Danish film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. He trained at Den Danske Filmskole from 1966 to 1968 and began his career with short films before directing features.
His directorial credits include Nitten røde roser (1974), Slingrevalsen (1981) and Rainfox (1984). He served as executive producer on the Norwegian film Zero Kelvin (1995) and as producer on Kristin Lavransdatter (1995). He also appeared as an actor in several Danish films, including Land of Plenty (1983).
Carlsen held positions as a film consultant at the Danish Film Institute (1977–1980), facts chief at TV 2 and director of Norsk Film A/S. He died in 2011.
