Biography
Ester Krumbachová (1923–1996) was a Czech costume designer, art director, screenwriter and occasional director, closely associated with the Czechoslovak New Wave. She studied applied arts and began her career in theatre before moving to film at Barrandov Studios in the early 1960s, where she worked on more than forty productions.
She is best known for her contributions to Daisies (1966), on which she co-wrote the screenplay with Věra Chytilová and designed the costumes, and for her work on films including Diamonds of the Night (1964), The Party and the Guests (1966), Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) and Witchhammer (1970). Krumbachová also directed the feature Murdering the Devil (1970) and later collaborated again with Chytilová on The Very Late Afternoon of a Faun (1983). Following the 1968 invasion she was effectively banned from feature films until the 1980s.
