Biography
Ettore Giannini (1912–1990) was an Italian screenwriter, film director and actor. Born in Naples, he graduated in law before training at the Accademia d'arte drammatica in Rome. He began his career writing radio dramas in the 1930s and made his first short film, La prua incatenata, in 1936.
Giannini wrote for eight films between 1940 and 1967, including The City Stands Trial (1952) and Neapolitan Carousel (1954), which he also directed. The latter won an award at the Cannes Film Festival. He appeared as Andrea Casatti in Roberto Rossellini's Europa '51 (1952). He also worked in theatre, staging the first Italian production of Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude in 1946, and later directed dubbing for films by Federico Fellini and Francis Ford Coppola.
