Biography
Eva Dahlbeck was a Swedish actress and author. Born on 8 March 1920 in Saltsjö-Duvnäs near Stockholm, she trained at the Royal Dramatic Theatre school from 1941 to 1944 and appeared on its stage until 1964. She made her film debut in 1942.
Dahlbeck became known for her roles in several Ingmar Bergman films, including Secrets of Women (1952), A Lesson in Love (1954) and Smiles of a Summer Night (1955), in which she played Desirée Armfeldt. She also appeared in Brink of Life (1958), for which she shared the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress, and other films such as Dreams (1955) and All These Women (1964). She received the Eugene O'Neill Award in 1961 for her stage work.
In the 1960s Dahlbeck turned increasingly to writing. She retired from the stage in 1964 and made her final screen appearance in Tintomara (1970). She published novels and poetry, and wrote the screenplay for Yngsjömordet (1966). She was married to Sven Lampell from 1944 until his death in 2007.
