Biography
Eva Mattes is a German-Austrian actress born on 14 December 1954 in Tegernsee, Germany. She began her career in the early 1970s and appeared in several films directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, including The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972) as Gabriele von Kant, Jail Bait, Effi Briest and In a Year of 13 Moons (1978).
Mattes is also known for her work with Werner Herzog, playing Eva in Stroszek (1977) and Marie in Woyzeck (1979). Her other film credits include Germany, Pale Mother (1980) and Enemy at the Gates (2001) as Mother Filipov. On television she played Klara Blum in the long-running series Tatort. She has received awards including a Bavarian Film Award for Best Actress.
