Biography
Fede Álvarez, also credited as Federico Álvarez, is a Uruguayan director, screenwriter and producer. He was born Federico Javier Álvarez Mattos on 9 February 1978 in Montevideo. His breakthrough came with the short film Panic Attack! (2009), which led to a deal with Ghost House Pictures.
Álvarez made his feature debut directing and co-writing the remake Evil Dead (2013). He followed this with Don't Breathe (2016), which he directed, co-wrote and produced. He later directed The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018) and co-wrote and directed Alien: Romulus (2024).
He frequently collaborates with screenwriter Rodo Sayagues. Álvarez is the son of Uruguayan journalist Luciano Álvarez and is based in Los Angeles, where he holds dual Uruguayan and United States citizenship.
