Biography
Felix van Groeningen is a Belgian film director and screenwriter. He studied audiovisual arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, graduating in 2000.
He is known for directing and co-writing The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film, as well as The Misfortunates (2009), Belgica (2016) and The Eight Mountains (2022). He made his English-language debut as director and co-screenwriter of Beautiful Boy (2018).
Van Groeningen has maintained a long-term professional collaboration with producer Dirk Impens and frequently works with cinematographer Ruben Impens and editor Nico Leunen. He is in a relationship with screenwriter and actress Charlotte Vandermeersch.
