Fernando Lindez

On the nude beach in The Last Sunrise (2026), Fernando Lindez’s fisherman Julián meets Maia Reficco’s Ry, and neither quite knows where to look. We enjoyed their embarrassment, because the argument briefly gives these prospective lovers something awkward to deal with. Lindez has some comic promise here, and the scene makes his calm presence worth watching. The rest of the film gives him too little to do, and he does too little to make up for it.

His television work has often cast him as a young man negotiating family pressure and romantic complications. He played Alejandro Beltrán in SKAM España (2018–2020), then Joel Castellano in Elite (2023–2024), where the confident exterior had some internal conflict beneath it. Escándalo. Relato de una obsesión (2023) gave him a major television lead as Hugo Ribó Ferrer. With Tell Me Softly (2025) and The Last Sunrise, he moved into film leads, the latter his first English-language role. The move towards more vulnerable romantic characters makes sense, but The Last Sunrise scarcely tests what he can do.

Carlson Young’s direction keeps returning to the handsome couple beside one another, with rather less interest in what happens between them. Anna Klassen’s screenplay gives Julián little reason to lose his composure, so Lindez’s calm becomes monotonous. Reficco at least has the small physical habits of a dancer to play, always aware of where her feet are. When the pair kiss, the lighting and framing treat them much as they treat the rest of Mallorca. The resulting romance is tidy and largely without heat.

The writing deserves much of the blame, but Lindez does not find enough in Julián to make the quiet stretches interesting. That matters when so much of his work asks him to be somebody’s romantic prospect. The beach encounter suggests he can be engaging when a scene allows him a little embarrassment and friction. A part that lets him be difficult would be a more useful next step than another agreeable man beside the sea.
