Biography

Fiona Finlay is an English television and film producer and writer. Born in London in 1956, she graduated with a degree in English literature from the University of Leicester and gained a postgraduate diploma in theatre studies from the University of Cardiff. She later obtained a distinction in the Certificate of Higher Education in Arts Management from Birkbeck College, University of London.

Finlay began her career as assistant to the heads of New Writing and Classical Repertoire at the National Theatre before joining the BBC as a script editor and subsequently working as a producer. Her productions include Single Voices (1990), The Sharp End (1991), Downtown Lagos (1992), Black Daisies for the Bride (1993) and Persuasion (1995), the latter a BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel directed by Roger Michell. She received a BAFTA Television Award for Best Single Drama for Persuasion. In 2013 she launched Doorway Films.
