Biography
Flo Clements, also credited as Floy Clements or Foy Clements, was an American actress and politician. She appeared in two silent films directed by Oscar Micheaux: as Alma Prichard in Within Our Gates (1920) and in a supporting role in The Brute (1920).
Born Floy Mae Stephens in Memphis, Tennessee, she studied at Wilberforce University. After her film work she settled in Chicago and entered politics, serving as a precinct captain and committeewoman before her election in 1958 to the Illinois House of Representatives, where she became the first African American woman to serve in the Illinois General Assembly. She held the seat for one term.
