Biography
Francesco Barilli is an Italian actor, writer, director and painter. Born in Parma in 1943, he studied at the city's art institute and began painting seriously while still a teenager. He worked as a voluntary assistant to director Antonio Pietrangeli on La parmigiana (1963) and made his screen debut in a small role in that film.
Barilli played the lead role of Fabrizio in Bernardo Bertolucci's Before the Revolution (1964). He later wrote and directed the giallo horror The Perfume of the Lady in Black (1974), his feature debut, which became a cult film. He has also written for other directors and continued to work in painting and short films.
