Biography
François de Lamothe (1928–2011) was a French production designer and art director. He trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the IDHEC, and began working as an assistant decorator before receiving his first full production design credit on Pierrot la tendresse (1960).
He contributed to more than eighty films, including Cartouche (1962), Le Samouraï (1967), Hibernatus (1969), Borsalino (1970), The Magnificent One (1973) and Les Misérables (1982). He was nominated four times for the César Award for Best Production Design. De Lamothe also designed sets for around fifty theatre productions.
