Biography
Frank Bough (1933–2020) was an English television presenter. He was best known for hosting BBC programmes including the sports magazine Grandstand from 1968, the current-affairs show Nationwide and Breakfast Time, the corporation’s first breakfast television service, which he launched in 1983 alongside Selina Scott and Nick Ross.
Born Francis Joseph Bough in Fenton, Staffordshire, he was educated at Oswestry Boys’ School and Merton College, Oxford, and completed national service in the Royal Tank Regiment. He joined the BBC in the early 1960s on regional news in Newcastle before moving to national sport and current-affairs presenting.
Bough’s long association with the BBC ended in 1988 after tabloid revelations about his private life. He subsequently presented programmes for ITV and Sky.
