Biography
Frank Loesser was an American composer and lyricist. Born in New York City on 29 June 1910, he began his career writing songs for Hollywood films in the 1930s and 1940s, contributing to more than sixty pictures. He later moved to Broadway, where he wrote both music and lyrics for several musicals.
Loesser is best known for the score of Guys and Dolls (1950), which received a Tony Award for Best Musical, and its 1955 film adaptation. Other notable works include Where’s Charley? (1948), The Most Happy Fella (1956) and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1961), the last of which shared the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He died in New York City on 28 July 1969.
