Biography
Frank Tidy (17 May 1932 – 27 January 2017) was an English cinematographer. Born in Liverpool, he began his career in stop-motion animation before moving into cinematography. In 1965 he co-founded Valley Films with Roger Woodburn and Peter Biziou, and the company worked on hundreds of commercials, many directed by Ridley Scott and Tony Scott.
Tidy served as director of photography on Ridley Scott’s debut feature The Duellists (1977), for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Cinematography. He collaborated frequently with director Andrew Davis, shooting five films including Code of Silence (1985), The Package (1989), Under Siege (1992), Steal Big Steal Little (1995) and Chain Reaction (1996). His other credits include Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992), The Butcher’s Wife (1991) and Hoodlum (1997). He died in Kent after suffering from dementia.
