Biography
Franz Weihmayr was a German cinematographer. He was born in Munich on 30 December 1903 and died there on 26 May 1969. He received photographic training in his father's portrait studio before becoming a camera assistant and then chief cinematographer from the mid-1920s.
Weihmayr worked on more than eighty films between 1924 and 1964. He shared cinematography duties with Reimar Kuntze on Mädchen in Uniform (1931) and was among the camera operators on Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will (1935). He photographed numerous features starring Zarah Leander during the Nazi era and, after the war, contributed to West German productions including the rubble film Love '47 (1949).
He was married to actress Ada Tschechowa; the marriage ended in divorce.
